The Alexandra Drapery Company was established in Bristol as a draper’s shopduring the 1850’s by Alfred Isaac Davis, selling fabrics and household linens.
Bristol was an affluent area with a major dock area and many smallmanufacturing and engineering workshops. All clothing was made to order fromfabrics and patterns selected in the Alexandra drapery shop, tailored byseamstresses and delivered to customers homes. During the First World War,Alexandra supplied garments for the thousands of women who volunteered to workin nursing, agricultural and factory roles.
Alexandra has been designing and manufacturing garments since 1854. From thepart we played in the development of women’s workwear at the start of the 20thCentury, right through to the development of modern protective workwear andsuiting for just about every sector and business in the UK, to the solutions wenow offer to millions of wearers across the world, Alexandra has remained trueto our core principles – quality, good design and reliable service.
